Painting Maggie

When sketching a pet, or any animal for that matter, one needs to work quickly. Students sketched our model for the day, Maggie, and had to stop when she moved and concentrate on other parts of their drawing, then return. We made 5 second gesture drawings that stretched into a 20 min sketch. A lot of fun.

3/4 portraits using the "formula"

In these oil paintings the students had to use 'THE FORMULA"
Their compositions had to inclide an "escape hatch" to lead the viewers eye back out of the picture and include at least 3/4 of a figure.
They were their first large oil paintings.
