A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AP ART

Friday mornings are sacred in the JCAPstudio. We have our 1 hour session first period and everyone has some donuts and gets to work. In the senior studio many different things are happening at once. Each student is exploring their own issues as their "concentration" begins to come together. It's a bit like a three (or more ) ring circus. ART! WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START THE DAY.

NEW AP HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT!

"Art Supplies" by Fairfield Porter
I WANT YOU TO EXPLORE THE " ART SITES YOU MIGHT LIKE" ON THE RIGHT AND POST SOME PICTURES AND INFO ON YOUR SITE DIRECTING YOUR CLASSMATES TO
#1 SOMETHING YOU FOUND AND TELL WHY YOU FOUND IT INTERESTING AND
#2 HOW IT MAY HAVE HELPED YOU. SOME OF THE BLOGS ARE QUITE INTERESTING I RECOMMEND : drawman.blogspot for great example of a blog as an art journal and its full of lessons, links, examples and is very extensive. DAN ELDON gives examples of incredible sketchbook pages and an interesting life and tragic death. EDWARD GORDON is part of a project that paints A PAINTING A DAY and has many links to others that do too.
Also, the link to the AP Drawing portfolio is there to help you get a handle on goals you need to aim for.You CAN DO THIS and you improve with each piece. Many student examples. SEE WHAT A 6 IS. The "Bar" is raised high. It's good to know where it is.

START ADDING LINKS TO YOUR BLOG. due monday oct 19

saving a sketch

Amanda H
Sometimes work needs to be revisited. Artwork never really is "Done" but it can be "Completed." There is a difference. Sometimes sketches shouldn't be thrown away but developed further. Here a light sketch was reworked to make the figure appear out of the darkness. You should look at your sketches and see if you can "save it". Amanda did and now she has one more piece for her portfolio.

SAMPLE CONCENTRATION IDEAS FOR APSTUDIO

Concentrations are about Exploration of ideas and techniques.
What your artwork is “of” in never as important as what it is “about.” Any of these “abouts” can be applied to many different subjects from figures to landscapes.
• Portraits which integrate traditional art materials and techniques
• Visual investigation of the theme of “concealment”
• Visual exploration of the impact of the agents on a subject (light, age, weight, emotion, water, etc)
• Multiple objects used to convey specific information
• Figure drawings which explore the use of foreshortening for expressive narrative purposes
• Images that explore the visual representation of PARADOXES or opposing forces (night/day, simple/complex)
• Expressive landscapes based upon personal experience of a particular place
• Images depicting specific times of day or night
• Multiple images that are used to reflect narrative events
